Fake Idol

September 3, 2007 at 1:37 pm (Idols)

What do you think of this Idols drama? I find it mildly amusing that they succeeded but can see how the judges would be pissed off.
As a rule, I dislike advertising. It’s the bane of every journalist’s existence. But that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate when it’s done well.
This, however, is not done well. People don’t like to be cheated. They don’t like to be made fools of and they don’t like to find out their geeky heroes are fake.
I haven’t seen the guy or anything like that but I would be teed off if I’d fallen for this only to be fooled.

I think CLiff and Abrahams are faking it.
check out http://www.joblog.co.za- he said it last week already.

  2. Toby Hanks said,

I don’t think they knew though. Joblog doesn’t give any adequate sources to say they did and they say in the (verified?) news report that they didn’t.

  3. madamm said,

hmm…ja i guess. I mean I just read joblog last week and that’s where I got the lowdown on mr fake, is all.

  4. Toby Hanks said,

But it was actually Bruinman who broke the story. And, oh my soul, how are these people writing this crap on his blog: http://bruinman.blogspot.com/2007/08/cliff-jennings-fake.html

Jirrie, have they no shame??? A hotnot? I’ll tell them their ma se hotnot ja.

  5. madamm said,

doesn’t look like he responded to any of it.

Maybe he was practising restraint. Probably better that way. Ma ek sallie stil geblyitie, ek kan jou daai vertel meisie.

Personally if it is a fake it is fairly amusing to me, TV seems to do it all the time – how else do you think that they get these fantastic characters and storylines from? 😉

My personal favourite was something that happened recently in Holland which was all over the news – they had this reality show/competition where people had to compete to be the winners of this one persons kidney (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6699847.stm) It turned out to be a ruse to get people to notice the plight organ transplants where in but hysterically funny at the time. I do love the crap TV companies come up with though.

Have you all heard about the massive uproar over TV competitions being faked here in the UK? Production team members where calling in pretending to be entrants etc (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6905095.stm) – bloody hysterical – bad though

Personally I don’t see there being anything wrong as long as that person doesn’t win – companies will do anything to get the viewer numbers up …

Oooeee, I heard about all of that Divine Miss M. I thought the kidney one was rather funny and it served a good purpose – it got people to notice the whole organ donor thing.
The BBC – they should hang their heads in shame. That was done purely for profit so they don’t even have a ‘save the organ’ type of message to use an excuse. How can they ever be credible again?

  9. The Divine Miss M said,

That was all rather shocking with the Beeb but many other companies were implicated too. Thankfully I work for one of the more upstanding Production Companies – if there is actually such a thing.

The organ donor thing really made my week – at first I was thinking “how much lower can tv sink” and then I just realised how absolutely brilliant and intelligent the whole rouse was! They can never do it again though …

  10. Toby Hanks said,

Glad to hear your company wasn’t implicated. It really is so kak when you work for someone whose ethical values don’t quite match yours isn’t it?
I remember being as outraged about the organ thing at first then just shaking my head in appalled disbelief.
Same feeling with this new reality show set to be up soon (or maybe it’s on already) about stripping. Yes, the winner is the one who strips best…

  11. The Divine Miss M said,

I LOVE IT! I so will be watching that … 😉

  12. Toby Hanks said,

Even if there are beer-boepe and orange-peel thighs??? I’m just starting to get over the next bout of Supersterre so don’t know how much I can stomach with half-nekkid people on the box!

  13. The Divine Miss M said,

I don’t know hey, morbid fascination goes a long way …. Anyways it isn’t like I have anything better to do with my time 😉
