Ten best things

July 20, 2007 at 9:07 am (Uncategorized)

Since I’ve written about the ten worst times in my life, I figured I could write about the ten best too. MrsM and Gnome, consider yourselves tagged.

1.       Each and every time I met an interesting person. (A generalisation, I know, but who’s going to tell me what to write here, huh?!)

2.       Being the only kid in my primary school who got 97 out of 100 for the spelling bee. I think rosette was one of the words I couldn’t spell. *sigh*

3.       The day my mom got back from the hospital after a scare when my brother was born. (I remember the day she was rushed there: I had to finish the food she was cooking and ended up burning the meat and throwing half a bottle of tomato sauce in the pot to disguise the taste. Needless to say, none of us ate it but I still think it’s because we were worried, not because it tasted like hell).

4.       The day I got my driver’s licence, then the day I got my car. There are no words to describe the feeling.

5.       The day of Mrs M’s surprise party. The look – and shriek – was priceless.

6.       Camping in Pringle Bay with Gen and her motley crew. It was madness and I still remember that vicious cocktails she concocted. People literally had to lie down at her feet after swallowing.

7.       Standing at Paarl Gravure with Neris and Jazz, holding the student magazine we’d created in my hands. Lots of tears and sweat went into that thing. Lots and lots and lots…

8.       Pulling an all-weekender at the department of journalism. Yes, all-weekender, not just an all-nighter. I can’t imagine doing that again but hell it was fun. No, actually it was insanity but it was fantastic.

9.       The first time I left South Africa. It was my first assignment and I had to go to Kenya to do it. Oh how I miss those days sometimes…

10.   When my mom said it was up to me to decide if I went to church or not. I was 11 years old and I thought she was the best mom in the whole world to give me the power to make that choice.

It was something to treasure. That’s why we got it all on camera!
