The right to bare skin

July 17, 2007 at 8:43 am (annoying, freedom of expression)

The torches are being brought out as I write, I’m sure. Stakes are being prepared and pyres constructed for its victims. The religious folk are once again on a roll.
And usually I wouldn’t even give these types of stories a second glance but this one just irked me. I’m not an advocate of porn at all but I do believe it is our right to be able to choose whether we want it or not.
These bastions of morality insist there are many “parentless homes” in which kids can watch porn.
Um, excuse me, don’t you think childheaded households will consider moral degradation by watching porn on etv the least of their problems?
But what really infuriates me is there rubbish arguments that porn fuels sexual abuse. Hello, we have lots of sickos out there who don’t need porn to fuel their tendencies.
I could on and on but basically: if you want to attack others and come out guns blazing get your facts straight.
Using melodrama and watered down emotional facts will not win you anything except the scorn of those who already think religion is restrictive and outdated. You’re not doing yourself any favours.

um, do they think child-headed homes actually worry about porn more than they do getting food on the table…
and no, sexual abuse actually stems from sexual abuse not porn. stop the cycle. besides, people who wanna ogle porn are gonna do it anyway…with or without etv
