My roots are blonde

June 19, 2007 at 9:19 am (blushing, funny, stupid)

I’m one of those people. Those unfortunate ones who break expensive vases and fall over tent ropes. I have five-minute conversations on the phone before realising it’s not the person who I thought I was speaking to. Give me a stationary caravan and I’ll fall out of it. Yes, I’m one of those unfortunate folks.
Yesterday I again proved my fine ability to make a complete ass of myself when I gave a colleague a lift home. And she’s not just any colleague; she’s actually a smart one who I happen to have a lot of respect and admiration for, just so you know.
Anyway, we got to my car, which Mrs M has lovingly dubbed Blue (I like it; I’m keeping it). I pressed the button. Nothing. Pressed it again. Still nothing.
Shook the key (as if the button would somehow work better by shaking it – kinda like turning the radio down when you’re trying to see the name of a road while you’re driving…) but still it wouldn’t work.
Can it be the battery of the key thing? Does it even have a battery (these new cars mos don’t work like the old ones, do they)? Dammit, it’s a new car and it won’t move without the immobiliser working.
What the hell do I do now? Breathe.
Ok, walk around the car while colleague tries to figure out the solution. After a few seconds and being outraged at the scratch on the side of the door it dawns on me: It’s the colour of my car and the shape of my car. But it’s not my car.
Blue was three cars to the left.

Ja Mrs M. *sheepish grin* When I do it, I do it well.

no beep from you own car? Battery must have been flat!
I sometimes can only find my car by pressing the immobilizer remote to hear the beep!

Hee, hee. No, Lost-in-Jozi, it’s one of those silent-ish posh things that don’t tchweet all over the place. Bloody inconvenient if you ask me.
It was so bizarre because my car wasn’t far but I was standing with my back towards it so didn’t see the lights flash when I pressed either!

My arial is bent at the top – you wouldn’t believe how much that helps.

Hee, hee. I don’t think that’s going to help someone like me. I might end up breaking the thing off. Yep, I’m like that!
