Enatis and I

May 21, 2007 at 8:06 am (annoying, enatis, exchanges, frustrated, fury)

The sun shone brightly – it was a good sign. I’d be in and out at record speed. The door opened at 08h00 and in we filed. By 08h25 I was at the window. I wouldn’t let the sour cow at enquiries quell my optimism – I was going to be the lucky one. Ha, ha. How the optimistic have fallen…
My guy at the window gave me one glance and told me I was in the wrong queue. Bad. Then told me I had the wrong form and my car would be scrapped if I handed in the pink form. Very bad. I needed a yellow one and it needed the signature of the previous owner. Fucking bad considering I didn’t have the yellow form and the only one the previous owner had signed was, yes, you guessed it, the pink form. And she’s now out of the country so no more signatures forthcoming from her side. We’d been given the wrong info from the retards at the call centre. Go figure.
The only way out was to get an affidavit from the police which I duly got but this set me back by about 40 minutes. I’m screwed. I sat in that queue from 10 until 2pm. Needless to say, it was a long day. But this much I have learned:
– Take food. Lots of it. And bottles of water; a flask of coffee if that’s what you prefer. But take it slow ’cos the toilet is dodgy.
– Take along reading material. You’re going to need a break from staring at the roof, glaring at the cashiers and going insane slowly.
– Be nice to the people next to you. You’ll need them to keep a place when the need to eat/smoke/pee arises.
– Have a pillow ready. Those seats are hard.
– For registration have the yellow form and the blue form and the car’s papers. With signatures! And don’t forget the roadworthy certificate plus copies of your ID and the previous owner’s ID. Vital stuff this.
– Be humble – those cretins behind the glass love to squash you like a bug at the slightest hint of arrogance. However, if you’re going to throw a tantrum, don’t just make it a wobbly – go all out. Scream if you must. And have fun while doing it.

I assume that aside from the hickups, BLUE (my own name for your lovely car) is now registered.

She is indeed. I like the name. Simple, to the point and catchy. Thanks MrsM.
