Hi there, I’m stupid

March 16, 2007 at 6:38 am (stupid)

Marianne Thamm is a genius. In her latest column for woman’s mag, Fairlady, this wordy wonder asks why we can’t just call someone stupid when they are. She reckons knowing you’re stupid is one of the best things that can happen to you. That way we all know where we stand and we get on with the business of living.

I’ve always thought it rude to call someone stupid but when I think about it I won’t have to be overly cautious or politely sensitive and try explaining something to a dolt if he/she and I both acknowledged he/she is stupid. We’d both just let things be and move on to other (less intelligent) stuff and be happy.

And I have realised that I have always been quite aware of my shortcomings. I openly say when I’m stupid. Like with the maths thing. I am a firm believer in announcing my poor way with numbers (aren’t all journalists simply failed accountants?) so everyone knows they have to work harder to make me understand. Otherwise they’d all think I’m a whizz with math and expect me to get it right – which is something you and I both know will never happen…

So today I challenge you to acknowledge when you’re being stupid, are about to be stupid, or have done something stupid.
Come on, say it with me, “Hi, I’m xxx – and I’m stupid.”
